New tropical depression expected today

The system off the Central American coast is expected to become a tropical depression today, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC)

HOLT, Fla., Oct. 4, 2017–The low-pressure system off the Central American coast is expected to become a tropical depression later today.

The National Hurricane Center found the system better organized since yesterday.

Moving northwestward, the low is expected to move slowly across or near the eastern portions of Nicaragua and Honduras Thursday before moving into the northwestern Caribbean Sea by Friday.

The system is expected to emerge over the southern Gulf of Mexico by Saturday.

An Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the disturbance this afternoon.

Chance of further formation through the next 48 hours is 90 percent.
