Tropical wave moves over the Atlantic

HOLT, Fla., June 15, 20223—A tropical wave has emerged off the west coast of Africa today marking an early start to the “wave train.”

Origin of storms in June. (NHC)

Potential storm-producing waves originating from Africa typically begin showing up in July, according to historical data from the National Hurricane Center.

By August and September, the African wave train is in full swing, providing most of the storms that form during the hurricane season during that timeframe.

The new wave just off the African coast is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

According to the NHC, environmental conditions are expected to be favorable for gradual development while the wave moves across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic Ocean during the next several days.

Formation chance for now is near zero percent; however, it increases to 30 percent through the next seven days as the system travels west to west-northwest.
