
BAKER, Fla., July 6, 2023—Multiple area fire units responded to a fire in Baker that started from a lightning strike during a severe thunderstorm Wednesday.
Just after 6 p.m., first responders were alerted to a residential fire on Creston Barrow Road in northern Okaloosa County.
Firefighters from Blackman, Holt, Baker, Almarante, North Okaloosa and Harold fire districts responded to the call.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a single-family mobile home with smoke present.

Family members on scene reported one person had not evacuated and remained inside the home. Firefighters performed a search and rescued the resident. The individual received immediate medical attention before being airlifted to an area hospital for treatment.
After all occupants were accounted for, family members said several pets remained inside the home. Firefighters also rescued all pets from the home.
The fire was extinguished by 10 p.m. The state fire marshal is assisting in the investigation.
Okaloosa County EMS, Walton Air Rescue, Florida Forest Service and CHELCO electric crews also responded to the incident.
