The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit and a K9 team found John Dylan Fleming Saturday hiding under a couch at his home on Sundance Way.
Fleming, 29, was charged with felony probation violation for domestic battery and tampering in a misdemeanor domestic violence proceeding, as well as domestic battery by strangulation and kidnapping.
A family member says Fleming tried to smother and choke her Friday morning, then pulled her back into the room as she tried to escape out a window.
He fled from his home before deputies arrived Friday, sparking an area search. Fleming was located and taken into custody Saturday evening where is being held in the Okaloosa County Jail without bond.
Fleming was arrested in 2022 for domestic battery and obstructing justice. In 2019, he was arrested for probation violation and marijuana possession. Between 2017 and 2016, he was arrested for various moving traffic violations. In 2015, he was arrested for domestic battery.
The fact courts keep letting repeat violent offenders go free, they have no reason not to keep committing violence. Not until they kill someone do they sometimes end up in prison. All we can do is ensure we keep our own protection on hand and use if necessary to protect ourselves. The courts sure don’t.
