
HOLT, Fla., July 28, 2023—A 14-day back-to-school sales tax holiday began Monday for the 2023-2024 school year.
This tax holiday runs through Aug. 6.
During this time, clothing, computers, supplies and learning aids are tax free. This includes:
- clothing, footwear and accessories selling for $100 or less
- most school supplies selling for $50 or less
- computers and related accessories selling for $1,500 or less (when purchased for non-commercial and personal use)
- learning aids such as flashcards, memory games and puzzle books, and jigsaw puzzles selling for $30 or less
A second sales tax holiday covering the same items runs from Jan. 1-14, 2024, as kids get ready to go back to school after the holiday break.
Other sales tax holidays
Freedom Summer, now through Sept. 4: This applies to certain outdoor recreation purchases, such as sunglasses selling for $100 or less, tents selling for $200 or less and kayaks or canoes selling for $500 or less, children’s toys selling at $75 or less and children’s athletic equipment selling at $100 or less. It also includes tickets for events, museums, the arts and more.
Disaster Preparedness, Aug. 26-Sept. 8: This applies to items needed during disasters, including generators priced at $3,000 or less. This year’s holidays includes over-the-counter pet medications selling at $100 or less and common household consumable items selling at $30 or less.
Tool Time, Sept. 2-8: This applies to work gloves $25 or less; high-visibility safety vests $30 or less; hand tools, safety glasses, protective overalls, duffle/tote bags, LED flashlights, shovels, rakes, fuel cans $50 or less; tool boxes, hearing protection items $75 or less; tool belts, electrical voltage/testing equipment, shop lights, hard hats/head protection $100 or less; industry textbook/code books $125 or less; power tool batteries, handheld pipe cutters, drain opening tools, plumbing inspection equipment $150 or less; work boots $175 or less; ladders $250 or less; power tools, tool boxes for vehicles $300 or less.
Home Hardening, now through June 30, 2024: This applies to impact-resistant doors, windows and garage doors.
These tax holidays do not apply to rental or repair of qualifying items or sales in theme parks, entertainment complexes, public lodging establishments or airports.
