More heat, severe storms in forecast

HOLT, Fla., Aug. 7, 2023—Heat and storms are in the forecast for today and tomorrow.

A second day of an excessive heat warning is in effect today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; however, today’s forecast remains sunny with no chance of precipitation to break the intensity.

Heat index values could reach 114 degrees, especially during the time of peak heating in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The high temperature today is forecast to be around 98 degrees with a low only getting down to around 79.

For tomorrow, an excessive heat watch will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Heat values of 112 are possible for this area with tomorrow’s high to be around 96 degrees.

In addition, northwest Florida will be under a level 1 risk for severe weather tomorrow. Chance of afternoon thunderstorms is 60 percent, which could break the excessive heat, depending on timing and duration.

Storms are forecast to develop between late morning through the afternoon.

The greatest threat from any severe storms that may develop will be damaging winds more than 60 mph.

Rain chances at 50 percent with temperatures in the mid-to-high 90s continue through the weekend.
