Motorcyclist injured in I-10 traffic accident

HOLT, Fla., Aug. 28, 2023—A motorcycle driver was injured in a traffic accident on Interstate 10 this evening.

Around 6:50 p.m., the motorcycle, driven by a 31-year-old Pensacola man, was headed westbound, traveling “in and out of both lanes,” according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

A tractor trailer, also westbound, was traveling in the outside lane.

The motorcycle driver failed to adjust his speed and hit the rear of the semi, according to the release.

The motorcycle came to rest on the north grass shoulder around mile marker 49. The semi came to a controlled stop on the north shoulder a little ways further west, according to the release.

The accident closed both westbound lanes of I-10 for just about an hour as emergency responders attended to the motorcycle driver and FHP conducted an accident investigation.

Okaloosa MedFlight was called to the scene and Holt Fire District directed the helicopter landing on the closed westbound interstate lanes. The driver was transported to an area hospital for undisclosed injuries. At the time of the news release, his next of kin had not been notified of his accident.

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and Okaloosa County EMS also responded to the accident.
