Attempted traffic stop ends with arrest after chase

CRESTVIEW, Fla., Oct. 31, 2023—Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested a Crestview man after a high-speed chase last night.

An FHP trooper attempted to make a traffic stop near McCaskill Street around 9 p.m. after witnessing a Ford sedan driving recklessly westbound on U.S. Highway 90 west of Valley Road, according to a FHP news release.

The driver, Isaiah Edward Durham, 23, attempted to flee from the trooper near Webb Street and East Pine Avenue.

In his attempt to get away, Durham deliberately rammed a second FHP patrol car in addition to the first trooper who attempted the traffic stop, according to the release.

Troopers attempted a successful PIT maneuver at Lindberg Street and West First Avenue. A PIT, or pursuit immobilization technique, maneuver is when a pursuing law enforcement vehicle bumps either the left or right rear bumper of the fleeing vehicle turning it sideways and causing the driver to lose control.

Durham was arrested on two counts of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing to elude law enforcement at a high rate of speed, marijuana possession, drug paraphernalia possession, reckless driving and driving with a suspended/revoked license.

A 22-year-old male passenger, also from Crestview, was released after being issued a seat belt citation.

No one was injured in the incident. Further charges are pending, according to the release.
