
BAKER, Fla., Nov. 4, 2023—Three people were injured in a multi-vehicle accident on State Road 4 around 5:24 p.m. yesterday.
According to a news release by the Florida Highway Patrol, a northbound Jeep collided head-on into a Hyundai traveling south at Pickens Circle.
The Jeep was traveling north as it approached Pickens Circle where a stopped Chevy pickup was waiting on traffic before turning left at the Milligan Assembly of God Church.
To avoid rear-ending the pickup, the driver, 34 from Crestview, swerved left into the southbound lane where the Jeep collided head-on with the approaching Hyundai. The truck was also hit by the spinning Jeep, according to the release.
The Hyundai driver, 36 from Baker, was uninjured in the crash. The Jeep driver suffered minor injuries and his 7-year-old passenger was uninjured.
However, the driver of the pickup, a 31-year-old male from Baker, was listed in serious condition and his passenger, a 93-year-old man from Shalimar, was listed in critical condition.
Highway 4 was closed for an extended period of time while a crash investigation was conducted and the roadway was cleared, according to the release.
Traffic was detoured to Old Brown and Garrett roads while Hwy 4 was closed, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing.
