Gulf low has small chance of development

HOLT, Fla., June 11, 2024—A trough of low pressure has formed over the eastern Gulf of Mexico and is producing showers and thunderstorms.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the system is expected to move northwest across Florida during the next day or so.

Once it reemerges over the Atlantic Ocean along the southeast coast later this week, conditions, although unfavorable, could allow the system some slow development.

Regardless of development, heavy rainfall is expected across portions of Florida during the next few days.

A flood watch is in effect for southern Florida through tomorrow evening. The NWS is forecasting 6-9 inches of rain across southwest Florida and 2-5 inches for east coast areas.
