HOLT, Fla., June 19, 2024—The first storm of the 2024 hurricane season formed in the Gulf of Mexico today.
The National Hurricane Center announced Tropical Storm Alberto after an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter mission determined the system had developed a well-defined center of circulation.
Some slight strengthening is forecast today or tonight before the center of the storm reaches land.
Alberto is forecast to move west into Mexico sometime tomorrow morning.
Tropical storm conditions are expected today along portions of the Texas coast due to Alberto’s large wind field and area of heavy rains well north of the center of the system.
