Flip-flop bank robber suspect arrested

DESTIN, Fla., July 11, 2024—A bank robbery suspect identified by wearing flip-flops and a sun visor while robbing a bank last week was arrested Friday in Destin.

Charles Edward Gallagher

Charles Edward Gallagher, 66, of Maritime Court in Destin, is charged with robbery.

Gallagher is accused of using a note to demand money from a bank clerk at Truist Bank on Emerald Coast Parkway in Destin July 3 and leaving with a small amount of money, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office news release.

During an investigation, the suspect’s 2017 black Maserati was seen at a nearby business without a license plate with its insignia covered in an apparent attempt to conceal its identity.

A search warrant on Gallagher’s car uncovered a bag with cash, a light-blue surgical mask, a pair of glasses and other items.

Gallagher denies any involvement.
