FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla., Sept. 16, 2024—A Fort Walton Beach teen was arrested Friday after making threats to hurt a middle school student.
Following an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office investigation, Aubrey Scherf, 15, was taken into custody on an active warrant for making electronic threats to kill or do bodily harm, according to an OCSO news release.
The victim, 12, reported Sept. 4 he was being threatened by Scherf on social media app Snapchat about an incident involving Scherf’s girlfriend.
Sheriff’s investigators said Scherf sent the boy a photo of herself holding a pistol along with texts to shoot or hurt him either after classes ended at Pryor Middle School or outside her apartment.
Deputies quickly tracked down the suspect and searched her home, according to the release. No weapon was located.
Scherf recently moved back to Okaloosa County from another state and was not actively enrolled in or attending classes in the county at the time of the incident.
According to a statement by Okaloosa County School Superintendent Marcus Chambers, measures were promptly put in place to protect the boy.
“The Okaloosa County School District enforces a zero-tolerance policy for threats against students, staff or school campuses,” he said. “We take all threats seriously and will not tolerate any actions compromising the security and well-being of our students, staff and school communities.”
Scherf was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
