Florida Highway Patrol K9 Trooper Ronnie Khune, 38, from Pensacola, received minor injuries as a result of the accident that occurred around 5:50 p.m. K9 Taz was not injured.

Khune was conducting a traffic stop east of Holt’s exit 45 and was walking back to his patrol SUV when he saw a vehicle headed for him, according to a statement from Capt. Jason King, FHP Troop H, Quincy District Commander.

Holt resident Leah Feeback, 35, was traveling west on I-10 in the outside lane near exit 45. She failed to say in her lane, crossing the solid white line. Her passenger door sideswiped Khune’s SUV before striking him. Feeback failed to stop and fled the accident scene, according to an FHP news release.

She was later located in a ditch on Log Lake Road about 950 feet south of U.S. Highway 90 where she was arrested and charged by the FHP with hit-and-run with injury and booked into the Okaloosa County Jail Monday night. She was released on bond yesterday.

“Trooper Khune was very fortunate to receive minor injuries,” said King. “He as walking back to his patrol car and was able to see the vehicle coming and attempted to get out of the way. This likely saved his life.”
