Storms expected tonight

HOLT, Fla., Jan. 5, 2025—Severe thunderstorm activity ahead of a cold front could bring damaging winds to the area.

A rather potent system is expected to move through tonight bringing gusty winds, life-threatening beach conditions and the potential for some strong-to-severe storms with damaging winds and possibly a tornado or two, mostly to areas north and east of the Florida panhandle.

As a cold front moves in from the west, a strong squall line of thunderstorms will likely develop along the front and push across the area tonight.

Expect areas southeast of Interstate 65 to receive up one-half inch of rain, and up to an inch of rain northwest of I-65 before tapering off late tonight.

Behind the front, temperatures will plummet rapidly. Highs tomorrow should only manage to reach the upper 40s to middle 50s here. Lows tomorrow night should be around 8-12 degrees below normal, dropping into the 20s.

Daytime highs will be around the high 40s to low 50s through the weekend.
