SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla., July 3, 2025—A multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 10 Tuesday left one Jackson County woman with serious injuries.
Six other people involved in the accident suffered minor injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred near mile marker 34 west of the S.A. Jones Road overpass sometime after 3 p.m. and closed both westbound lanes and one eastbound lane of traffic.
According to an FHP news release, a sedan, traveling in the inside eastbound lane, crossed into the right lane and hit the left-rear end of a pickup truck in the outside lane, according to the release.
The impact sent both cars into the median where the pickup came to a rest on the driver’s side facing northwest. The driver, a 61-year-old male, and two passengers, 58 and 79, both female, were all from Bastrop, Fla., and only suffered minor injuries.
The sedan continued across the median and traveled into the inside westbound lane of traffic where it collided head-on with an SUV. The SUV crossed the median and came to rest in the eastbound inside lane of traffic facing west. The male driver, 43, and female passenger, 39, both from Orlando, suffered minor injuries. The driver of the sedan, a 23-year-old woman, suffered major injuries, according to the release.
In an attempt to avoid the accident, a westbound tractor trailer swerved to the right, then overcorrected to the left causing the truck to roll on its right side across both westbound lanes of traffic facing south. The male driver, 45, from Pensacola, suffered minor injuries, according to the release.
According to the Santa Rosa Emergency Management, the westbound lanes were closed until 4:50 p.m. An eastbound lane of I-10 was also closed.
During the westbound interstate closure, traffic was detoured at Holt’s exit 45 to U.S. Highway 90 west.
