Holt Fire was alerted just after noon and responded with Rescue 31 and Engines 32 and 33.
Crestview Fire Department and Harold Fire District also responded to the alarm and staged in an area east of the brushfire while Holt Fire with Rescue 31 covered the western side.
Holt’s engines, both pumpers, stood on standby in the event Rescue 31 needed more water.
Per Florida Power & Light, safety protocol in responding to fires at the solar farm is for firefighters to stay outside the solar arrays and let the fire burn within the complex.
All fire equipment at today’s fire set up to observe the brushfire and be on hand in case it started to spread to other areas of the complex.
Driven by a westerly wind, the fire eventually burned itself out as it reached a 25 to 30-foot wide dirt road.
Although no one was hurt, the flames drove grasshoppers in a mass migration across the roadway as they tried to get away from the heat and flames.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
