Freeze watch in effect Monday night

HOLT, Fla., Nov. 9, 2025—The first freeze of the season is forecast for Monday night with temperatures dropping as low as 25°.

A freeze watch will be in effect from 6 p.m. tomorrow to 8 a.m. Tuesday.

These low temperatures will probably break record lows for Pensacola (33°) and Mobile (31°) by several degrees, according to Mobile’s National Weather Service.

Along with the cold temps will be a north wind at 15-20 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph. That puts the wind chill around 19°(at 5 mph) to 9° (with 25 mph gusts).

According to the NWS, an arctic cold front is exiting the area to the east and bringing cool dry air behind it.

Winds from the northwest will pick up throughout the day today, blowing to around 15 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Tonight will be clear and cold with widespread frost after 5 p.m. Lows will be around 38°, with 15-20 mph winds and gusts near 30 mph.

Expect frost Tuesday morning before 7 a.m. with a high around 57° and light winds. Tuesday night will see patchy frost after 1 a.m. and a low around 36°.

Freeze preparedness tips

This is the first cold snap to hit the Holt area this fall-winter season. Here’s some helpful reminders to prepare for the sub-freezing weather expected Sunday night.

  • Wear layers, gloves, hats to stay warm when outside.
  • Bring pets inside or provide them a warm shelter.
  • Cover sensitive plants, or bring them in if they’re portable.
  • Cover exposed outdoor pipes; allow outdoor faucets to drip to prevent broken frozen pipes.
  • Don’t use fuel-burning (charcoal or wood) grills or other devices inside. They release carbon monoxide gas.

The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension Office offers the five Ps for cold weather preparedness:

  • Protect People
  • Protect Pets
