AAA reports jump at the pump; national average goes up nearly 27 cents

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 5, 2026—The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline jumped nearly 27 cents since last week to $3.25.

That’s compared with last week’s average of $2.98 which increased by 9 cents from last month’s average of $2.89 per gallon, according to AAA information.

Conflict in the Middle East sent crude oil prices higher to the mid $70 per-barrel range. The recent increase puts the national average at the same price it was in early April of 2025.

The last time the national average made a similar weekly jump was in March 2022 during the start of the Russia/Ukraine conflict.

According to AAA, springtime typically sees higher gas prices as gasoline demand rises and summer-blend gasoline production begins.

The nation’s 10 most expensive gasoline markets range from $4.81 in California to $3.27 in Michigan.

The least expensive gasoline market today is Oklahoma at $2.79, which was the price of gas at stations in north Okaloosa during the past week. Mississippi comes in second at $2.81 per gallon.

Florida’s average gas price according to AAA is $3.53 per gallon and trending upward.

The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public electric vehicle charging station stayed the same at 39 cents.
