HOLT, Fla., April 5, 2017–The National Weather Service has extended a tornado watch for Holt and the surrounding area until 3 p.m. today.
The tornado prediction was issued by the Storm Prediction Center headquartered in Norman, Okla. An agency of the NWS, the center is responsible for forecasting severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in the continental United States.
A watch means conditions are favorable to a tornado to occur.
Although the threat for severe weather has been reduced somewhat from last night’s predictions, the NWS urges everyone to be weather aware today. Severe storms are still expected in this area.
“The severe weather threat looks to come to an end late this afternoon into the evening,” according to a NWS alert statement.
