HOLT, Fla., Jan. 1, 2018–Temperatures are expected to drop well below freezing here late tonight into early Tuesday morning after only reaching into the upper 30s today.
Overnight lows, which should be the coldest of the week, according to the National Weather Service in Mobile, are forecast to range in the mid teens tonight.
This area is expected to hit 16 degrees for a low tonight. Tuesday is expected to warm up to the 40s with sunshine during the day.
Because of the low temperatures, the NWS Mobile has issued a hard freeze warning for Okaloosa County for tonight and Tuesday night. The NWS defines a hard freeze as temperatures below 20 degrees.
Gusty winds mostly from 20-to-30 mph will also be likely today diminishing slowly late this afternoon through tonight, according to the NWS Mobile.
The lowest wind chill readings tonight into Tuesday morning are expected to range from near zero to 10 degrees; therefore, a wind chill advisory will also be in effect for the entire area from 9 p.m. this evening until 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Looking ahead, the NWS Mobile says a hard freeze still looks probable again Thursday night.
