CRESTVIEW, Fla., May 16, 2018–A flipped van blocked the southbound lane of State Road around 1 p.m. today.
The van wound up on its side after the driver allegedly ran a stop light and was struck by a motorist crossing his path on a green turn arrow.
The accident happened around 1:10 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 85 (Ferdon Boulevard) North and Old Bethel Road when a southbound 2012 Cox Communications van was clipped on its rear passenger side and flipped on the driver’s side.
An 80-year-old Auburn community resident driving a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis hit the van as he executed a left turn from Old Bethel Road onto northbound S.R. 85 on a green turn arrow.
The van blocked both S.R. 85 southbound lanes after it flipped.
Two witnesses, one who was stopped on Old Bethel Road behind the Grand Marquis, said the van’s driver ran the red light and drove in front of the Mercury.
The van driver, Logan Byers, 27, of Crestview, was cited for failure to obey a red traffic signal.
Alcohol was not considered a factor in the accident and both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
Although Byers later complained of back pain, both drivers declined to be transported to a hospital.
