HOLT, Fla., Oct. 10, 2018—Hurricane Michael is making landfall northwest of Mexico Beach with 155 mph winds.
Recent data from NOAA and Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 155 mph, with higher gusts.
A Category 5 storm carries winds of 157 mph or higher.
The latest minimum central pressure based on data from an Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft is 919 mb, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The NHC warns residents not to venture out into the calm of the eye because hazardous winds will increase rapidly as it passes over the area.
