HOLT, Fla., Aug. 28, 2019–The National Hurricane Center upgraded Dorian to a hurricane as of 2 p.m. EDT.
Located near St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, now-Hurricane Dorian is packing maximum sustained winds at 75 mph, making it a category 1 storm.
Dorian is forecast to continue to strengthen during the next five days as it travels over Atlantic waters toward the U.S. east coast.
Dorian is moving west at 13 mph and is expected to continue on this track for the day or two, according to the NHC.
Current rainfall estimates for the southeastern coast are 4-to-8 inches with 10 inches possible in some locations.
