HOLT, Fla., Oct. 9, 2019—The Holt Volunteer Fire District is hosting its last rib sale of the year Friday and Saturday.

During this sale, Holt Fire will also be selling gun raffle tickets for a drawing Oct. 31 at the First Baptist Church of Holt annual Harvest Festival.

Additionally, two fire response trucks scheduled to be sold will be on site for potential buyers to look over before deciding to place a bid.

Ribs

The last ribs of the season go in the smokers lined up in the fire station parking lot at 8 a.m. and will be ready after 12 p.m. both days.

Ribs sell on a first-come, first-served basis for $20 a rack.

Side dishes of baked beans, potato salad and coleslaw from Susan’s Restaurant are also available for $4 a pint, two pints for $7 or three pints for $11. These tend to sell out quickly.

Seasoned with a secret rub, the ribs are smoked for two hours, then wrapped in foil to trap the juices and smoked for another two hours.

Holt Fire holds three rib sales a year to raise money for programs like the annual Kid’s Day scheduled for the first Saturday in December.

The next rib sale won’t be until Super Bowl weekend next year, so this is the last chance for these fall-off-the-bone treats.

Raffle

Gun raffle tickets will also be available during the rib sale for the Oct. 31 drawing. Winners do not have to be present to win, but they must pass Florida’s gun laws to take possession of a weapon.

This year, Holt Fire is raffling off a Browning AB3 7mm-08, a Judge 45 Colt 410 with a 3-inch barrel and a Liberty 24 gun safe.

Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20.

Rides

Finally, Holt Fire plans to sell two trucks formerly used as response vehicles.

For sale are a 2006 Chevy Tahoe and a 2004 Ford Expedition. These two trucks were used as the chief’s and assistant chief’s response vehicles.

Vehicles will be sold “as is.”

Sealed bids will be accepted beginning Nov. 1. Deadline for bids is Dec. 10. Bid opening by the Holt Fire commissioners  will be during the Dec. 10 commissioners meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Directions to the rib sale: The fire station is located at 490 U.S. 90 West in Holt.  If coming from Interstate 10, take exit 45, turn north toward U.S. 90, then west at the flashing light.  The station is on the left.
