Depression expected to strengthen

Jun1HOLT, Fla., June 1, 2020—Tropical Depression Three is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm according to the National Hurricane Center.

The depression is moving toward the north-northwest at 7 mph.

This motion is expected tonight before the system turns west-southwest or southward at a slower forward speed Tuesday and meanders over the southern Bay of Campeche through late Wednesday.

Favorable environmental conditions in the bay could allow the system to strengthen during the next couple of days where it could become Tropical Storm Cristobal.

After that, the system’s intensity will depend on how much it interacts with land, according to the NHC.

Although the latest hurricane models show the system moving inland over southern Mexico, the NHC forecast keeps it just offshore, maintaining tropical storm strength.
