North county adds virus numbers

HOLT, Fla., Aug. 23, 2020—Nearly all north county communities added more virus cases to their totals according to the state health department’s update today.

Holt added two more cases for a total of 28. Baker added a new case Thursday and another one today for a total of 79.

Laurel Hill also added two more cases, bringing its total to 38.

Crestview has been adding cases every day since the state reopened in June. The county seat surpassed the 800-case mark Saturday and added five more cases today bringing the total to 809.

Milligan has been holding at just two virus cases since Aug. 11.

Cinco Bayou was added to the health department update Aug. 20 with three reported cases.

Today was the first day since Tuesday that no additional virus-related deaths were reported in Okaloosa County.

The county added one death Wednesday, three deaths Thursday, another three Friday and one yesterday, bringing the total to 71 virus-related deaths.

Across the state, Florida passed the 600,000 virus mark with a total of 600,571 cases.  While the numbers appear to be decreasing, Florida is still racking up close to 3,000 new cases each day.

Virus-related deaths across the state continue to rise as well. The state now stands at a total of 10,462.

The United States has a total of nearly 5.7 million positive cases nationwide. The rise of new cases in California, Florida and Texas has pushed the previous pandemic epicenter of New York to the fourth highest overall.
