DESTIN, Fla., Feb. 26, 2021—Southwest Airlines is the newest airline service to be added to the lineup at Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport.
Service begins May 2021, according to a joint news release by the airport, Southwest and the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners.
“The daily direct service will…provide great travel options for our community and businesses,” said Airports Director Tracy Stage.
The carrier’s initial flight schedule for the region is now available for purchase on Southwest.com.
New routes will begin operating May 6. One-way fares include:
- Nashville three times a day for as low as $69
- Dallas once daily with fares as low as $69
- Baltimore once daily with fares as low as $79
Southwest is headquartered in Dallas and is the world’s largest low-cost carrier.
The airline is known for its entertaining pre-flight safety briefings that poke fun at requirements like fastening seat belts, how to wear inflatable life vests and what to do if the plane depressurizes and the oxygen masks drop down.
Southwest flight attendant Marty Cobb became an instant hit when her 3-minute pre-flight briefing went viral on YouTube in 2014. It has more than 25 million views.
Since then, other flight attendants have put their own spin on the briefing, all with the objective to help relieve the stress of flying, according to Cobb.
