HOLT, Fla., June 30, 2021—The tropical disturbance in the Atlantic Ocean is expected to become Tropical Storm Elsa tonight or early tomorrow.
Invest 97 became Potential Tropical Cyclone Five with the National Hurricane Center’s 2 p.m. EDT update.
PTC 5 is moving west-northwest at 21 mph and is forecast to continue on this track for the next couple of days.
It is expected to move into the eastern Caribbean Sea late Friday and Friday night.
After 72 hours, the system is forecast to turn more northwestward, according to the NHC.
The NHC advises residents of Florida to continue to monitor forecast updates; however, it is still too soon to determine what, if any, impacts could occur due to the uncertainty in the long-range forecast.
The tropical low located just west of the Lesser Antilles is not expected to develop further.
