Serious injury on I-10 due to blown tire

HOLT, Fla., Aug. 27, 2021—The passenger of a single-vehicle accident suffered serious injuries today when the truck he was traveling in blew a tire on the interstate.

The crash around 2:30 p.m. closed down westbound traffic on Interstate 10 at mile marker 46 for about an hour, according to a Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office traffic alert.

Traffic on Ferdon Boulevard north through Crestview to James Lee Boulevard/U.S. Hwy 90, and Hwy 90 westbound traffic through Crestview, Milligan and Holt was backed up just west of Old Bethel Road as drivers bailed off the interstate at exit 56.

When the tire blew, the westbound pickup, towing a utility trailer, swerved onto the shoulder, hit a guardrail and landed in a ditch, according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report.

The truck flipped while in the ditch and landed back on its wheels near a tree line, according to the report.

The 55-year-old driver from Silverhill, Ala., suffered minor injuries. The 40-year-old passenger was from Pensacola.

Both lanes of I-10 were back open by 4 p.m., according to an OCSO notice.
