Tom Thumb to rebrand as Cumberland Farms

HOLT, Fla., April 13, 2022—Tom Thumb convenience stores will undergo a rebranding beginning in May.

According to a news release by the United Kingdom-based EG Group that owns the store chain, the name will change to the Cumberland Farms brand beginning next month.

The $50 million project will span two years and include 113 existing Tom Thumb locations and new locations across Florida and Alabama.

It is not known when area stores are scheduled to make the change.

The rebranding effort will take 18-24 months to complete all stores, the company said. Newly rebranded locations will feature Cumberland Farms’ latest design, equipment and food menu, including the company’s Farmhouse Blend coffee.

“In addition to updating and refreshing all of the stores with the Cumberland Farms design, layout and equipment, we plan to bring expanded food service offerings, including a new fried chicken concept,” said George Fournier, president of EG America.

Tom Thumb had its beginnings in Crestview when long-time resident W.C. Jones created the convenience store in 1979. In 1984, Dillon Companies, a subsidiary of The Kroger Company, acquired the 84 Tom Thumb Food Stores. Kroger wound up selling its portfolio of convenience store holdings of more than 700 stores–including Tom Thumb–to EG Group for $2.15 billion in 2018.

EG Group was founded in 2001 and employs about 50,000 people working in more than 6,300 sites across the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and the United States.

EG America, a subsidiary of EG Group, operates more than 1,700 locations across 10 brands throughout the United States.

According to the release, the rebrand will not impact current Tom Thumb employees; they will remain employed under the Cumberland Farm brand.
