HOLT, Fla., Oct. 7, 2022—The Holt Fire District is selling smoked ribs and gun raffle tickets today and tomorrow at the fire station.
Ribs go for $22 a rack and raffle tickets for $5 or 5 tickets for $20.
Today’s ribs will be ready for pickup after 2 p.m. Tomorrow’s ribs will be ready after 1 p.m.
“We’re doing something a little different this time,” said Fire Commissioner Jim Connors. “Thanks to our new sponsor, Hub City Smokehouse and Grill and the loan of their smoker, we’re able to provide our delicious ribs for the community.”
The ribs, rubbed with what the District calls “Almost Al’s” secret seasoning, will still be smoked with pecan to ensure they have the same flavor HFD’s ribs are known for.
Longtime HFD sponsor Susan’s Restaurant will provide pint side dishes of baked beans, potato salad and coleslaw. These sell for $4 a pint, two for $7 or three sides for $11.
In addition to Susan’s and Hub City, Ultimate Waste Solutions and Renalus Center for Kidney Care also stepped up as sponsors for this sale.
Beginning Jan. 1, the District will be looking for sponsors for 2023. Interested companies or individuals can call Connors at 850-305-2855 for more information about sponsorship opportunities.
Money from the sale goes to the Fireman’s Fund that pays for programs like Kids Day which is scheduled for Dec. 3 at Holt Park.

In addition to ribs, the District will be selling gun raffle tickets today and tomorrow for an opportunity to win a Liberty 18 gun safe, a Browning A-Bolt III 6.5 cm pistol or a Kimber Micro 9 mm STS Rosewood rifle.
Drawing is Oct. 31 during the annual Harvest Festival. Winners do not have to be present to win, but they do have to pass Florida gun laws to take possession of weapons.
