OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla., May 31, 2023—A child died when a reckless driver crossed the Interstate 10 median and crashed into a semi today.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, around 11:30 a.m., troopers attempted to stop a vehicle traveling eastbound on I-10 near mile marker 62, approximately 2 miles west of the rest stop between Crestview and DeFuniak Springs.

The driver of the vehicle was driving recklessly with no regard for others, according to the release.

As troopers tried to stop the vehicle, it entered the median and collided with a tractor-trailer traveling westbound on I-10.

Three occupants remained in the vehicle. One child was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
