HOLT, Fla., July 20, 2026—The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline rose above $4 today.

Instability along the Strait of Hormuz due to the ongoing conflict with Iran is contributing to the increase at the pump and pushing crude oil prices higher, according to AAA.

Today’s national average is $4 per gallon of regular gas and $5.11 per gallon for diesel. By comparison, the national average for regular gas a year ago was $3.14 per gallon and diesel was $3.73 per gallon.

California has the highest average prices in the United States at $5.49 per gallon. Hawaii was eight cents lower at $5.41.

Florida’s average is slightly lower than the national average: $3.93 for regular and $5.23 for diesel. That’s compared with $3.09 for regular and $3.69 for diesel a year ago.

The highest national average gas prices ever recorded were in June 2022. Regular gas was $5.02 and diesel topped out at $5.82, according to AAA.

Today, prices in Crestview range from a high of $4.19 at the Mobil station just north of Interstate 10 to a low of $3.69 at Casey’s, Circle K (with a membership card) and the recently constructed Murphy USA all located on South Ferdon Boulevard.

South Okaloosa County regular gasoline prices are about 10 cents lower than those north of I-10. Lowest are Murphy Express and the Chevron station in Mary Esther at $3.59 and the Shell station on Miracle Strip Parkway SW selling regular at $3.57.
