HOLT, Fla., Dec. 30, 2017–Sherry’s Diner is ringing in the New Year with new winter business hours and breakfast six days a week.
Beginning Jan. 2, 2018, the diner will be open for breakfast Tuesday through Sunday, opening at 7 a.m.
With the exception of Friday, normal business hours will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays, the restaurant will remain open until 8 p.m.
The diner will continue to be closed on Mondays.
Sherry’s Diner opened Dec. 17, 2015. Scheduled to open a day earlier, an unforeseen incident delayed opening by a day.
“I got a call from my cook who said, ‘Miss Sherry, do I call the fire department?'” said Sherry Cregger, diner owner. “I said, ‘Why? Are you on fire?'”
The fire system malfunctioned and sprayed fire retardant foam all over the kitchen, she said.
“It cost me $500 to clean it up,” said Cregger. “Now I pretend like Dec. 16 never existed.”
Sherry’s hour change comes six months after Cregger closed on Tuesdays following the unanticipated death of her father, Hubert Thompson, in early June.
“I needed to take the time out to grieve,” she said.
She’s reopening on Tuesdays, eliminating the dinner hour, except for Fridays until 8 p.m., and opening earlier to serve breakfast weekdays. Although she already serves breakfast Saturdays and Sundays, she’ll start serving two hours earlier with the new hours.
Menu changes include all-you-can-eat pancakes for $3.99, mullet will be available every day and she’ll start smoking her barbecue on site again.
“I love Holt,” Cregger said. “I enjoy talking with my customers. Customers ask me to sit and talk to them.”
In addition to the diner, Cregger operates an on-site catering service with a full menu to choose from for special events.
And if the hamburgers at Holt’s Emerald Coast Dragway taste familiar during weekend races, it’s because Cregger is also the food vender there.
Sherry’s will serve breakfast from 7-10:30 a.m. before switching over to the lunch menu.
