HOLT, Fla., May 24, 2018–The National Hurricane Center has increased the Caribbean low-pressure system to a 90 percent chance to develop further at its 2 p.m. EDT update.
Forecast is for a subtropical or tropical depression or storm to develop late Saturday with possible “landfall” Sunday into Monday along the Mississippi/Louisiana coasts.
An Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the disturbance Friday afternoon, if necessary.
A wet holiday weekend is in store to kick off the start of summer.
The National Weather Service in Mobile has included this area in its flood threat with rainfall amounts of 6-12 inches with localized amounts of 12-15 inches possible.
A flash flood watch has been issued effective Saturday evening through Tuesday evening, by the NWS in Mobile.
