Racks of ribs, already smoked for two hours, are ready to be wrapped in foil to smoke for another two hours before they’re ready for sale.

HOLT, Fla., May 24, 2018–Celebrate the start of summer with a rack of Holt Fire District’s smoked ribs Friday and Saturday.

These fall-off-the-bone ribs come just in time for the beach, the boat, picnicking or just kicking back and enjoying the long weekend.

Ribs go in the smokers lined up in the fire station parking lot at 8 a.m. and noon, and will be ready for pickup by 1 and 5 p.m. both days.

By the end of the sale, Holt Fire will have smoked 300 racks of ribs.

The ribs sell on a first-come, first-served basis for $18 a rack.  Sides of potato salad, coleslaw and baked beans are also available for $4 a pint or $7 for two pints, provided by Susan’s Restaurant in Holt, but they tend to sell out quickly.

Seasoned with a secret rub, the ribs are smoked for two hours, then wrapped in foil and smoked for another two hours.

The volunteer fire district holds three rib sales each year to raise money for programs such as its annual Kid’s Day.

The fire station is located at 490 U.S. 90 West in Holt.

If coming from Interstate 10, take exit 45, turn north toward U.S. 90, then west at the flashing red light.  The station is on the left.

If coming from U.S. 90 in either direction, the fire station is on the south side of U.S. 90 and west side of the flashing yellow light.

Holt Fire District’s next rib sale–the last one of the year–will be Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
