SHALIMAR, Fla., June 13, 2018–A kitten was rescued Sunday after being swept into a gutter drain in Fort Walton Beach.
Cpl. Megan Hankins with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office was approached by two concerned citizens at the Wright District Office regarding a kitten trapped in a sewer well.
The kitten was struggling in the water after heavy rains created street flooding that evening.
Hankins located the kitten in a water-filled sewer well behind Walgreens at Racetrack Road and Beal Parkway.
Ocean City Wright Fire Department was contacted and after about 45 minutes the tiny kitten was rescued.
Lindsey Timpano, an Okaloosa County EMS paramedic took the kitten for the night because it was frightened, cold and wet.
The kitten was later taken to the SOCKS animal shelter to be paired with a foster family until old enough for Timpano to adopt her.
