HOLT, Fla., Aug. 27, 2018–The Holt Fire District is hosting its last rib sale of the season Saturday.
However, unlike past sales, this one is a one-day-only sale, which means they will likely go fast.
The last of the ribs–99 of them–go in the smokers lined up in the fire station parking lot at 8 a.m.
Ribs sell on a first-come, first-served basis for $18 a rack.
“You can come by early to reserve a rack to be sure you get one,” said Jim Connors, fire district commissioner.
Seasoned with a secret rub, the ribs are smoked for two hours, then wrapped in foil and smoked for another two hours. They’re ready for pickup by 1 p.m.
Side pints of potato salad, coleslaw and baked beans are also available for $7 for two or $11 for three pints, provided by Susan’s Restaurant in Holt.
This is the last rib sale of the year.
“There’ll be no more ribs until Super Bowl weekend next year,” Connors said.
Holt Fire District rib sales are scheduled three times a year, on Super Bowl weekend, Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend.
During Saturday’s sale, the Fire District will also be selling gun raffle tickets for a drawing Oct. 31 at Holt’s annual Harvest Festival held at the First Baptist Church of Holt.
People can buy one ticket for $5 or get four tickets for $20 during the rib sale or purchase tickets from any volunteer fireman.
Ticket holders do not have to be present during the drawing to win.
Raffled items will be:
- A Winchester Ranger 26-gun safe
- A Browning Hunter AB3 Remington bolt-action 7mm-08
- A black Taurus Judge 45 Colt 3″ revolver
The fire station is located at 490 U.S. 90 West in Holt. If coming from Interstate 10, take exit 45, turn north toward U.S. 90, then west at the flashing light. The station is on the left.
