HOLT, Fla., Oct. 15, 2018—It’s not too late to sign up for Crestview’s 2nd Annual Hay Bale Decorating Contest.
The contest is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Crestview and Hub City Smokehouse & Grill.
Entries must be submitted to Hub City at 168 S. Main Street, by Oct. 19. They can also be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
“We have space for 30 bales, and we’re still taking applications,” said Samma Brannon, Rotary Club member. “Any individual or group is encouraged to enter.”
There are two judging divisions: one for individuals, youth groups, church groups and other non-profit organizations, and one for commercial businesses such as banks, retail, utilities, etc.
Entry costs are $10 for individual/non-profits and $25 for commercial.
“Creative family members, girl and boy scouts, church groups, civic organizations, businesses, are all eligible and should join in the fun,” Brannon said.
Prizes for first, second and third place will be awarded in each division.
The Crestview’s Rotary Club will provide each team with one round bale to decorate. Decorations and materials are the responsibility of the contestant.
All entrants must submit a hay bale sketch or diagram of the proposed decoration in the spirit of this year’s theme of “Critters.”
Bales will be located on the grass area next to Hub City where decorating will begin Oct. 19. All decorating must be complete by Oct. 25.
Decorating times are Oct. 19 through Oct. 25, from 5-to-9 p.m. during the weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20 and 21.
After the decorating period has closed, the bales will be relocated to the center median along Main Street. Any repairs needed as a result of the move will be allowed prior to Oct. 27 voting.
See the Rotary website for complete contest rules.
Judging and voting
Judging will be Oct. 27 during the Main Street’s Downtown Fall Festival.
Entries will be judged on eye appeal, construction, creativity, use of materials and the overall theme, according to contest rules.
Voting will be by those attending the Fall Festival by paying a penny a vote. Votes will be collected in separate buckets for each hay bale decoration.
Winners will be chosen by the most votes received.
“Decorators should encourage their family, friends and co-workers to come to the Fall Festival and vote for their entry,” said Brannon.
Votes will be tallied at 5 p.m. and winners will be announced.
All money collected will be used to support Crestview Rotary’s community-giving projects, Brannon said.
Applications are available online at http://www.downtowncrestview.org.
