HOLT, Fla., May 22, 2019–What better way to kick off the summer weekend than with Holt Fire’s smoked ribs?
These mouthwatering, fall-off-the-bone ribs are just the thing to complete a day at the beach, on the boat, at a picnic or just chilling at home.
The Holt Volunteer Fire District will begin smoking racks of ribs early Friday morning at the fire station with the first batch coming off the smoker about 1 p.m.
The Fire District will smoke 70 racks of ribs Friday and Saturday in two smokings both days.
Seasoned with a secret rub, the ribs are smoked for two hours, then wrapped in foil and smoked for another two hours to lock in the juices.
Ribs will be available after 1 and 5 p.m. each day until they’re gone. Price is $20 per rack.
Side dishes of baked beans, potato salad and coleslaw from Susan’s Restaurant are also available for $4 a pint, two pints for $7, three pints for $11. These tend to sell out quickly.
Proceeds go to Holt Fire’s fireman’s fund to help pay for programs like the annual Kids’ Day the first Saturday in December.
The next rib sale is scheduled for Labor Day weekend in September.
For those not familiar with Holt, the fire station is located at 490 U.S. 90 West in Holt. If coming from Interstate 10, take exit 45, turn north toward U.S. 90, then west at the flashing light. The station is on the left.
