CRESTVIEW, Fla., July 8, 2019–The Crestview Police Department is investigating a possible murder that occurred just after 6 p.m. this evening on Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard near the intersection of Gordon Street.
The victim, Tywon C. Tatum, 32, of Crestview, was shot in the chest by a suspect who immediately fled the area after the shooting.
Tatum was unresponsive when officers arrived on the scene and was later pronounced dead upon arrival at the North Okaloosa Medical Center.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
The Crestview Police Department requested Florida Department of Law Enforcement assistance in processing the crime scene.

Tony Jerome Byrd
At the time of this release, the CPD is looking for Tony Jerome Byrd, 21, of Crestview as a person of interest in the shooting.
Byrd was last seen wearing dark pants with an unknown color shirt and was seen driving away from the scene in an unknown type of red car.
Byrd has distinctive tattoos, including the initials “NFL” tattooed on his neck on his throat and a tattoo of cursive writing around his color.
It’s believed Byrd may be armed with a black handgun and is considered dangerous.
Anyone who knows his whereabouts should avoid making contact with him and immediately call 911 or the CPD at 850-682-2055.
