HOLT, Fla., Oct. 1, 2019—A Holt man suffered minor injuries when he drove his motorcycle off the road and into a tree line today.
Robert Lee Welch, 69, was headed westbound on U.S. 90 around 7:30 a.m. when witnesses said they saw him veer into the eastbound lane before driving off into a wooded area on the south side of the highway near Galliver Cutoff, according to a news release by the Florida Highway Patrol.
According to the release, Welch said he purposefully drove off the highway, but a reason wasn’t given.
He was transported to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center where he was treated and released.
However, he was taken into custody by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office for an active warrant for a DUI with property damage.
Alcohol was not a factor in today’s incident.
