UPDATED: HOLT, Fla., Jan. 9, 2019–A motorcycle struck a deer early this morning on U.S. 90 in Holt.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol news release, Crestview resident Andrew Joseph Richards, 32, was traveling west on Hwy 90 when a deer crossed the road in front of him near Galliver Cutoff around 5:30 a.m.
In an attempt to avoid hitting the deer, Williams hit his rear brake and left a 50-foot skid mark on the roadway.
Driver and motorcycle fell sideways and skid another 30 feet before coming to a stop on the highway, blocking the westbound lane of travel, according to the release.
According to family sources, Richards was life-flighted to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center with serious injuries as a result of the crash.
He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
