First storm forms ahead of start of season

TD1HOLT, Fla., May 16, 2020—The first storm of the 2020 hurricane season formed off the coast of east-central Florida this afternoon ahead of the official June 1 start.

Tropical Depression One is moving toward the north-northeast at 13 mph and is expected to remain in the Atlantic Ocean.

The storm is forecast to parallel the Florida coast tonight then move near or east of the coast of North Carolina Monday.

The National Hurricane Center has issued a tropical storm watch for North Carolina.

TD One is expected to become Tropical Storm Arthur tomorrow, according to the NHC.
