HOLT, Fla., July 2, 2020—Celebrate Independence Day with a rack of Holt Fire District’s smoked ribs July 3-4.
What better way to brighten what is forecast to be a tad dreary 4th of July than with a rack of lip-smackin’, finger-lickin’, fall-off-the-bone ribs?
Holt Fire will smoke 210 racks with two cookings Friday and one on Saturday.
Ribs go into the smokers lined up at the fire station’s new location across U.S. 90 at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. Friday. The first batch will be ready after 1 p.m. both days. Friday’s second batch will be available after 5 p.m.
Ribs sell on a first-come, first-served basis for $20 a rack. Sides of potato salad, coleslaw and baked beans from Susan’s Restaurant are also available for $4 a pint, two pints for $7 or three pints for $11. These tend to sell out quickly.
Seasoned with a secret rub, the ribs are smoked for two hours, then wrapped in foil and smoked for another two hours. They come out of the smoker hot and juicy.
Money raised during the rib sale pays for programs such as its annual Kid’s Day held the first weekend in December.
The fire station is located at 483 U.S. 90 West in Holt, across from the community center/old fire station and the old Holt Water Works office.
For non-Holt residents, if coming from Interstate 10, take exit 45, turn north toward U.S. 90, then west at the flashing light. The station is now on the right.
