HOLT, Fla., July 9, 2020—The low pressure system off the North Carolina coast has become Tropical Storm Fay.
Fay is expected to bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to portions of the mid-Atlantic coast and southern New England.
Tropical storm warnings have been issued for the coasts of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.
The storm is forecast to move near the mid-Atlantic coast Friday and make landfall somewhere over the northeastern United States Saturday.
The storm is moving over warm waters of the Gulf Stream which should allow slight strengthening with winds up to 50 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center, but should weaken quickly once it moves inland Friday night or Saturday.
