HOLT, Fla., July 28, 2020—The low pressure system in the central Atlantic Ocean is expected to strengthen into a tropical system in the next couple of days.
Located about 500 miles east of the Windward Islands, satellite imagery suggests the system doesn’t yet have a well-defined center; however, data from a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration buoy indicate the system is producing winds near tropical-storm-force, according to the National Hurricane Center.
An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter mission is scheduled to investigate the system this afternoon.
Formation chance is high at 80 percent for the next 48 hours.
Should a tropical storm form, it will be named Isaias.
