Fugitive shooting in Crestview

CRESTVIEW, Fla., Nov, 5, 2020–The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a fatal shooting in Crestview today.

The shooting happened when the U.S. Marshals Service Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force attempted to take a wanted individual into custody this morning. 

A deputy with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office was assisting with the operation around 8:30 a.m. when the individual fired at least one shot from within a car in the McDonalds parking lot on Ferdon Boulevard next to the Walmart in Crestview.

Officers fired shots and the fugitive, wanted on out-of-state charges for kidnapping, died at the scene. 

Per standard protocol, the deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave with pay while the FDLE investigation takes place.
