Milton man dies in I-10 motorcycle accident

HOLT, Fla., Nov. 9 2020—A Milton man died early today when he fell off his motorcycle on Interstate 10.

The 51-year-old motorcyclist was traveling east on I-10 near mile marker 51 when he fell just before 3 a.m.

He was found lying in the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical responders, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

After the fall, the motorcycle continued traveling across both eastbound lanes before colliding with a guardrail in the median, according to the release.

The accident closed the eastbound lanes of I-10 for nine hours, backing up traffic to mile marker 38 toward Pensacola, while officials conducted an investigation into the crash.

Drivers were diverted off the interstate at Holt’s exit 45. As a result, traffic on U.S. Highway 90 from Galliver Cuttoff to State Road 4 was stop-and-go for hours.

No explanation of why the man fell off the motorcycle was given.

An investigation into the accident continues.

  1. Not sure why a one-man accident who was pronounced dead at the scene had to close off interstate for 9 HOURS. We were stuck in the detour for over 3 hours. Needless to say none of the TV stations in Pensacola reported the closure on their morning news or alert via the news app. On our way to Jacksonville, it took us 10 hours.
